The Test Level is an out-of-bounds location far beneath the Candy Canyon Kingdom map. It was discovered by Gummigoo and then Pomni who were transported to that location, after the truck that they were on clipped through a crevice and fell out of bounds.
Appearance[]
The Test Level is a dark, labyrinthine series of largely empty, minimalist rooms and corridors with massive, looming walls with a dark blue, faintly glowing grid pattern that faintly illuminates the level, and a black-and-blue checkerboard floor. Embedded in some of the walls are large hemispheres with reflective metallic surfaces (possibly for testing lighting/cube mapping effects).
Surface[]
When Pomni and Gummigoo successfully used one of the trucks on the ground, they entered an atmosphere that can be considered the surface of the outside of the map. The atmosphere has pastel coloring stemming from teal to purple, along with purple dots scattered across the sky. We can also see several giant blue tea kettles floating in the background.
Bottom[]
After falling through the map, Pomni and Gummigoo end up separated from each other, but quickly meet back up in a room filled with copies of various props and objects from the Candy Canyon Kingdom, including a copy of the maple syrup truck as well as plain blue cubes of varying sizes. It also contains a lineup of inert T-posing models of all the NPCs, including Gummigoo, who ends up having an existential crisis from discovering this and his true nature as an NPC.
Trivia[]
- A "Test Level", or Developer Level, is a unique level built by game developers for the purpose of testing various aspects of their games, such as physics, animations, AI interactions, special effects, and so on. Although test levels are often left in the game files after launch, they are typically made inaccessible from players, though they can sometimes be accessed either through exploits/glitches in the map (as Pomni and Gummigoo do unintentionally), console commands/cheat codes, or as a behind-the-scenes easter egg intentionally left by the developers.
- The teapots found in the Surface are Utah teapots, a standardized 3D test model and an in-joke used across multiple 3D software, which in turn modeled after the teapot produced by a German company, Melitta.
- These teapots may also be a reference to Russell's teapot.
- One of teapots with same color previously appeared in a series’s pilot during the intro as one of spinning objects.
- This is the second mysterious incident involving something that the circus members should have not seen, the first instance being the Exit door that led to the void.
- Gummigoo and Pomni are the only two characters that have discovered this location.
