Zooble is the one of the main characters of Glitch Productions' indie animated web series The Amazing Digital Circus, voiced by Ashley Nichols. They appear to be a Mix-and-Match toy who is stuck in the Digital Circus along with five other victims.
Appearance[]
Zooble is made of random colorful shapes and parts that make them resemble a Mix-and-Match toy. Consistently throughout the series, their head has been a hot pink isosceles triangle tilted downwards. Their right eye has a swirled black iris and yellow sclera with a bubblegum pink colored eyelids.
Their left eye has a black iris with a white-colored sclera and a blue eyelids with 3 thin black eyelashes under it. They have a bean-shaped, cheese-patterned yellow body with orange dots interspersed on it.
"PILOT"[]
They had a black and white striped Y antenna on the left and a mint-green zigzag antenna on their right, as well as 2 completely different colored arms (one is zigzagged and the other is straight). Additionally, the top of their body had various sockets for appendages to be attached to with their head being attached to the top socket with a magenta neck.
Their right arm was on their middle right socket being straight and orange ending with a yellow glove while their left arm was on their topmost left socket being exasperatingly long having a red squiggly segment with a pink joint featuring the rest of their arm being yellow and ending with a red crab-like claw. They had a turquoise moon with a flamingo pink wing as either a sleeve or an accessory on their topmost right socket.
The bottom most sockets of their body were occupied by both their legs, which protruded out of the side of their body instead of the bottom. Their right leg had a squiggly mint-green segment with the bottom having a purple joint and ends with an orange curl, which made up the bottom part of their leg. Their left leg was completely straight dark blue and ends with a matching shoe (which often appears purple due to lighting).
"Candy Carrier Chaos!"[]
They kept their mint-green antenna on the right side of their face and supplemented it with a yellow arrow antenna on the left. Their right arm and left leg remain unchanged- their right arm is still orange with a yellow glove and their left leg is still entirely blue. The beginning of their left arm and their fingers are the same blue, while their forearm is mint-green.
These features are connected with bright yellow fasteners. Zooble's right leg has a orange-and-black diagonally striped pattern and maintains a boomerang-like shape. Still on their topmost right socket is a pink wing, and bolted to their chest is a diagonally striped black-and-white square.
"The Mystery Of Mildenhall Manor"[]
Zooble has replaced their right antenna with a pink unicorn horn and reverted their left antenna and badge to the striped Y antenna and blue badge, and has switched out their left blue shoe leg for a white and black striped leg ending in a pinkish-purple pedal-shaped foot. Their right wing is triangular and is wavy striped yellow and purple.
Their right thigh is blue and has white polka dots, while their right calf is a teal rod, and their right foot is an orange glove. Their right elbow is a zigzag alternating between mid blue and white, and their forearm has an orange hinge and is a yellow block splitting off into three fingers for the hand. Their left hand is orange and has a white glove. Surprisingly, their bean-shaped body has changed colors slightly, with their darker-orange dots now a lighter orange and with their body's color now a yellow-golden shade.
"Fast Food Masquerade"[]
Zooble has replaced their left antenna with a yellow arrow similar to the one in "Candy Carrier Chaos!", but with sharper angles, while their right antenna is now a blue rod with a spiral on top. Their left arm has orange and yellow stripes with a purple five-fingered glove on the end. Their right elbow is a red rod, connected to a spherical pale tealish-green elbow. Their right arm is the same three-fingered yellow block.
Later, their arm turned into a yellow spatula. Their wing is now purple and has a perpendicular angle to it. Their left thigh is a magenta rod, and their left knee is a yellow cube, connecting to an orange three-toed duck leg as their left leg. Their right thigh is a squiggly teal rod, and their right knee is a reddish-purple sphere. Their right leg is a turquoise tube with folds in it, like a bendy straw. Their right foot is a black wheel inside a red housing. Their bean body seems to have gotten slightly paler, but not its spots.
Personality[]
Zooble is very grouchy and irritable and can be seen getting quite annoyed when a piece of them happens to be in the wrong place. Like Pomni, they suffer an identity crisis as they don't exactly know what they are, leading to them having body dysphoria and despite Caine's attempts to help by providing Zooble new parts, they have yet to find anything they like. This irritability leads to Zooble's lack of enthusiasm when it comes to Caine's adventures,[6] more often choosing to opt out of them and do their own thing for the day.
Zooble can be a bit rude, such as when they curse at the others, telling them to off, and how when they got captured by the Gloinks and called Kinger and Jax idiots for not helping them. However, they also seem to have a degree of compassion, since they show sadness and disbelief over Kaufmo's abstraction, even though they seem to have expected Kinger to be the next one to abstract, and mourned during his funeral. Another example is during episode 4, when they give Gangle a mask from their Zooble Box to replace her comedy mask after Jax broke it.
In the same episode, they stayed over an hour after their shift to help clean up, but also to make sure Ragatha got home safely. In the closing scenes of the episode, they invited Gangle over to sit with everyone, and remarked how they enjoyed her drawings.
Biography[]
"PILOT" (Episode 1)[]
In this episode, Zooble expresses some empathy for Pomni, disliking how bluntly Jax details the situation, even if it is the truth.
Caine decides to start an in-house adventure, but Zooble expresses disinterest. Caine claims he will make it optional and unobtrusive, but Zooble's limbs get split up and stolen by the Gloinks. They are taken to the Gloink Queen's nest, where Kinger tries to save them, but they eventually get eaten by the Gloink Queen. When Kaufmo jumps into the Gloink nest, the Gloink Queen spits Zooble out.
"Candy Carrier Chaos!" (Episode 2)[]
Zooble refused to join the other humans on the adventure to the Candy Canyon Kingdom, being absent for the majority of the episode. It is revealed at the end of the episode that they did this to set up the funeral for Kaufmo.
"The Mystery Of Mildenhall Manor" (Episode 3)[]
Zooble yet again declines to attend an adventure, but this time it provokes Caine to question Zooble about why they keep refusing. This discussion has occurred before, but happens again because Caine doesn't immediately remember Zooble's reasoning. It is revealed during a pop-up therapy session that Zooble never goes on adventures because they are unhappy with the nature of their mix-and-match body and cannot find a mix of parts they're satisfied with.
Caine fails to properly understand this reason and points back to the Zooble Box again as a solution to their problems. Later, they also vocalize that "nobody likes [Caine's] stupid adventures." Caine interprets this to mean that he failed at the only thing he does well, which causes him to have a mental breakdown, leading everything to glitch wildly. Zooble frantically replies, "Whose therapy session is this?".
Near the end of the episode, Caine and Zooble are seen having swapped places in the therapy session. Caine later notices that the others have come back from the adventure, and asks Zooble to pretend that the therapy session never happened.
"Fast Food Masquerade" (Episode 4)[]
After Jax breaks Gangle's comedy mask, Zooble invited Gangle to their room, saying "[they] found something." In their room, Zooble goes through their Zooble's part box and finds a mask similar to Gangle's. Zooble tells her that the mask is made of plastic and won't break easily. Gangle wears the mask, with Zooble asking how it feels. Gangle replies "it feels normal" and thanks Zooble for handing the mask. Meanwhile, Jax, Pomni and Ragatha enters Zooble's room. Jax mocks them about "giving away [their] parts," to which Zooble snaps that they are not giving anything to him.
Later, Caine sets up a new horror adventure, only for Pomni requesting him to "chill with the horror" as she doesn't want the adventure "like the last time." Zooble inquires if Pomni was talking about the one set for them previously, to which Pomni agrees and recounts the summary of her adventure in Mildenhall Manor, causing Zooble to get frustrated at Caine, demanding why he thought they might like that.
Caine tells them to suggest new adventures if they were going to be critics. Zooble inquires if Caine has ever checked the suggestion box for once, to which Caine replies that he forgot, much less to Zooble's surprise. Caine looks through the suggestions, with one of them by Zooble being "an adventure where Jax can't talk the entire time," causing Jax to sarcastically reply, "Genuinely hurtful." However, they decided on the fast-food place adventure suggested by Gangle.
Zooble tries to skip the adventure for the fourth time, with Caine getting frustrated this time. Zooble tells him they were not going to be wage slave for fun. Kinger suggests that he will remain in the circus, so Zooble can take his place, much to their disagreement and Caine's agreement. Zooble tries to protest, but Caine drops them into a hole leading to the Spudsy's.
In the Spudsy's, Zooble takes the job as the chef. They replace one of their hands with a plastic spatula to cook, only to realize it affects them, and get to work with a real spatula instead.
At one point, Jax asks Zooble about joining the adventure at last, to which they reply that they don't want Caine to punish them. Jax tells Caine will not do anything malicious for it's not in his nature. Zooble tells that the only fact holding Caine back is the fact that he likes the humans, and they wouldn't push it, to which Jax approves.
At lunchtime, Zooble tells off Ragatha (who had gone extremely high due to her squirted by "stupid sauce") about not helping. Ragatha tells them that she made 5 or 6 of the burgers, and Zooble reminds her that they needed to make 300 burgers for the Gloink Queen and the Gloinks. Ragatha begins to complain that Zooble was being "a grouch," prompting Zooble to call Gangle and tell her to help Ragatha up, suggesting she "huffed paint or something." However, Ragatha inadvertently insults Gangle, causing Gangle to crack, and upsettably telling Zooble to help Ragatha with the assembly, much to Zooble's concern.
As the shift almost came to an end, Zooble tells Gangle that they will drive Ragatha home, and how much longer Ragatha had to work. Gangle replies that "one hour." Zooble sticks up with Ragatha for one hour, packs everything and leaves the restaurant.
Back at the circus, Gangle was drawing on her own, and Zooble arrives and ask her why she wasn't with the others. Gangle breaks down, saying that the mask didn't work, and after what happened, she thinks nobody wants to talk to her anymore. Zooble says they like talking to Gangle, and suggests they will "find something new for her." Gangle tearfully replies that she doesn't deserve a friend like Zooble, with Zooble saying she "already got one." They invite her to hang out with their fellow circus mates, and tells her to bring her art with her, as they like seeing what she draws. Gangle follows Zooble to join with the other humans.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Digital physiology: Zooble is one of the trapped humans inside the digital world with their consciousness piloting a digital avatar. Because of this, they can preform abilities that are outside of the general range of normal human capabilities.
- Absolute Immortality: Because there is no conceivable way to die within the digital world and the fact that Caine cannot control the minds of those who are trapped within, there is currently no way that any of the human characters can or will die. With the closest alternative being "Abstraction." However this may change in the future.
- Self-Sustenance: Zooble along with the other humans in the show do not need to eat, sleep, or drink. However, they can still do these actions if they choose.
- Absolute Immortality: Because there is no conceivable way to die within the digital world and the fact that Caine cannot control the minds of those who are trapped within, there is currently no way that any of the human characters can or will die. With the closest alternative being "Abstraction." However this may change in the future.
- Detachable parts: Zooble can detach parts of their body and also attach other parts to their body. They can also control parts of themselves outside of their body, such as when Jax detached Zooble's arm and they began to choke him.
- Straight Limbs: When Zooble holds their breath, their limbs straighten up, like how the others in the circus cast get a different ability when holding it.
Trivia[]
- Their design is very similar to Gooseworx's YouTube Icon and the character designs from her animations Elaine the Bounty Hunter and Elaine gets Adopted, reflecting the former's geometric characters through Zooble's triangle-shaped head.
- Zooble's design greatly resembles the appearance of Zolo blocks.
- During the GlitchX 2023 AMA, Gooseworx mentioned that Zooble was one of the first characters she designed because she likes 90's toys. A screenshot of a Zolo a-go-go Play Sculpture Set was subsequently shown on-stream as one of her inspirations.[7]
- However, Zooble's name was inspired by Zoobs, a different toy from the early 2000s.[8]
- Zooble is one of the only characters not to have a visible mouth, the other being Kinger.
- According to a tweet, Zooble doesn't know what their gender is.[2] This is most likely because they're questioning their identity.
- According to Gooseworx, Zooble uses any pronouns.[9] However, some dubs consistently use specific pronouns for them:
- Zooble can control their body components, even when they are separated.
- This is best seen in the pilot episode, in which they are able to use their right hand to strangle Jax after he takes it for use as a back scratcher.
- They also have several parts stored away in a "Zooble box" inside their room.[10] The Zooble box has "no end" likely meaning there are infinite parts.[11]
- According to Gooseworx, Zooble would smoke weed if it was possible.[12][13]
- Aside from Pomni, Zooble has spent the shortest amount of time in the circus.[14]
- Zooble's door icon has different parts than what we have seen in the pilot episode. Gooseworx confirmed that their door icon was intentional, as they are constantly testing new parts.[15]
- Zooble's antennae twitch whenever they are upset. This is seen throughout the "PILOT" episode.
- Zooble would give the worst hugs.[16]
- Zooble's character design was the one that was the most fun to make according to Gooseworx.[17]
- During the GLITCHX TADC AMA, Gooseworx said that Zooble's design will change each episode, with different parts being switched out, but their head and bean body will stay the same.[18]
- Zooble can play the drums.[19]
- At some point before entering the Digital Circus, Zooble was a tattoo artist.[20]
- Zooble is Gooseworx's second favorite character, with the first being Jax.[21]
- Gooseworx has stated that Zooble would make the best bartender.[22]
- When they hold in their breath, their limbs straighten. Jax makes a pun on this by saying "Zooble turns straight," referring to their sexuality.
